Established in 1965, the Baeksang Arts Awards is a comprehensive arts awards ceremony encompassing TV, film, and theater. The 59th Baeksang Arts Awards took place on April 28th, 2023, at the beautiful Paradise City Resort in Incheon, and was broadcast live in Korea and on TikTok for international viewers. 1,723,992 people watched the show on television and 1,982,420 watched via TikTok. This is about 430,000 more than last year.
This prestigious awards ceremony is a festival for stars who have been active in the fields of TV, film, and theater for the past year. And it’s a uniquely special way for stars and their fans/audiences to celebrate and enjoy one another. Shin Dong-yeop, singer/actor Suzy, and actor Park Bo-gum once again hosted the show.
The most competitive Grand Prize in the TV category went to Park Eun-bin. In the ENA drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo, she played a character with autism spectrum brightly and lovingly, and received rave reviews saying ‘It would have been impossible without Park Eun-bin’.
The Best TV Drama was The Glory on Netflix. This drama, which provided a forum for public awareness on the issue of school violence, proved that dramas can change viewers’ perceptions and bring social change.
