After a near two year break from competitions, Chloe Kim continues her reign at the X Games in Aspen
Still just 20 years old, Korean American Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim sat out the entire 2019-20 competition season to focus on her first year at Princeton. As if her studies didn’t have her busy enough, she recently shocked the world with her singing chops on the Masked Singer competition last December.
Chloe Kim is the embodiment of finesse and fortitude. The California native ended her 22-month hiatus when she won the Laax Open in Switzerland on January 23, 2021, and then followed that up with another win a week later at the X Games in Aspen.
In Switzerland, Kim fell on her first attempt landing a 1080 but executed a successful frontside 1080 in her second run, making her total score 89.75. Despite falling on her first run, she bounced right back and delivered strong second and third runs to take charge in a contest she has come to dominate over the years.
In Aspen, Kim unexpectedly ended up in the emergency room due to an allergic reaction causing her throat to close up and then popped some ribs out of place on a fall on the half pipe. Despite the speed bumps, Kim reclaimed her crown at X Games, the biggest annual snowboard contest. She now has five X Games medals from Aspen, which is one shy of the six earned by female record holder Kelly Clark.
