“Squid Game” made history yet again at the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards by winning outstanding performance by male and female actor in a drama series. Lee Jung-Jae and Ho-Yeon Jung were big winners at the award ceremony this Sunday. It is the very first time a non-English-language TV series has won any acting prizes, let alone both of the top spots in drama.
Squid Game also won the outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a comedy or drama television series. It scored three wins out of four nominations which is unprecedented for non-English-language TV series.
Ho-Yeon Jung’s Retro Glam
Ho-Yeon Jung was radiant in a stunning black gown custom designed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton. Many people familiar with Korean history were quick to point out that Jung’s hair was worn in a traditional Korean style of a sleek braided ponytail with a traditional daenggi hair ribbon, an accessory that has been used in Korea for centuries.
“It was a very special 2022 SAG Awards day to have been a part of,” said hairstylist Jenny Cho, “I can’t hide the fact that I was very emotional to be the one to style her hair into a modern version of the sleek traditional Korean braids and to put the daenggi into Hoyeon’s hair. It was sincerely one of the most special glam moments to remember.”
